Public schools in Laguna receive drinking fountains in time for school opening

In support of Brigada Eskwela and the reopening of schools, Laguna Water donated refrigerated drinking fountains (RDF) to selected schools in the municipality of Biñan, Laguna. This is part of the Lingap Laguna project, which aims to provide access to clean and potable water in public spaces. In partnership with the Provincial Government of Laguna and the Manila Water Foundation, six schools each received one unit of RDF: 1. Biñan Secondary School of Applied Academics  2. Canlalay Elementary School 3. Platero Elementary School 4. Mamplasan Elementary School  5. Tomas A. Turalba Memorial Elementary School 6. Loma Elementary School.

The schools were selected in collaboration with the local government of the City of Biñan, led by the Mayor’s Office and the Human Settlement and Livelihood Office. Along with the signing of the agreement for the project, the RDF units were formally turned over to the schools in the presence of the Department of Education City Schools Division of Biñan and Laguna Board Member Flaviano “Jigcy” Pecaña.

The nutrition of children must be well taken care of so they can learn effectively. Likewise, in a tropical country where the heat index can be severe, hydration must truly be a top priority. This donation from Laguna Water to the six selected schools is a very meaningful blessing—symbolic, long-term, and something that will contribute to the learning of the children [translated],” shared Dr. Arlene Ricasata, OIC - Schools Division Superintendent of Biñan. On the other hand, Board Member Pecaña shared the relevance of the donations specially in the changing environment.

Our environment is continuously changing—it’s no longer like before when drinking directly from a hand pump was safe. Today, consuming unsafe water can easily lead to health issues such as stomach illnesses [translated]. The turnover of the six RDFs marks the second tranche of donations under the Lingap Laguna project. These donations are expected to benefit thousands of public school learners who will return to school this June. 

For us, ensuring that safe water flows in our public schools is an essential step in safeguarding the health of the community and empowering the next generation of leaders. As the new school year opens, Laguna Water stands together with our educators, parents, and local leaders. We hope that these donations bring comfort to our learners, reassuring them that their community is fully invested in their bright future,” Ms. Lheizel De Jesus, Laguna Water Regulatory Affairs Head, quipped. Her statement was supported by Manila Water Foundation’s Executive Director, Reginald Andal.

Together with Laguna Water, we will strive to ensure that all public schools are provided with the necessary water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities. This is because we believe that healthy children are intelligent children. Children who do not miss school are those who are given more opportunities to learn and grow [translated].

Lingap Laguna is a flagship initiative of Laguna Water, implemented in partnership with the Manila Water Foundation, launched in 2024 in celebration of its 15th anniversary. To date, the program has provided RDFs to seventeen schools, while five institutions have been equipped with handwashing facilities. The project is set to expand further, with more schools and public institutions expected to benefit from these essential services.
