Laguna Water Opens First Company Basketball Tournament

Championing work-life balance and establishing strong relationship among its employees, the official opening ceremony of Laguna Water's first-ever Company Basketball Tournament was held on May 17 at the Palma Real Covered Court in Biñan, Laguna.

"This basketball tournament intends to build and strengthen relationships of both office-based and site-assigned employees, providing a venue for more personal interaction while having fun playing the game we all love. Our aim is that this friendly game will translate to better cooperation and communication at work, teach us the values of self-discipline, leadership and teamwork, and more importantly, motivate us to achieve more personally and professionally and as an individual and as a company” said Regulatory and External Affairs Head, Real C. Magtangob during the Opening Remarks.

During the opening, the six teams were introduced – Dalisay, Bukal, Lawa, Agwa, Daloy, and Agos. Each team is composed of 10 – 12 players and were  headed by a member of Laguna Water’s Leadership Team. The team introduction was highlighted by the parade of the team muses and the ceremonial ball toss led by League Commissioner and Finance Head, Mark F. Mesina.

The opening ceremonies were immediately followed by two games which featured Agwa going against Dalisay and Bukal battling Daloy. After the games, Agwa defeated Dalisay, 55 – 46, while Bukal outlasted Daluyan, 64 – 54. Games are scheduled every Tuesday, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Palma Real Covered Court. The tournament will run until August 12, 2016. 

After the tournament, two All-Star teams will be formed and will go around the Province to play friendly pick-up games with the basketball team of each of the 30 towns within Laguna with the aim of introducing the company to expansion communities and building sustainable relationships with key stakeholders in each city/municipality.
