Laguna Water Grants 100 Families with Free Water Connections
Clean water for all. One hundred household-beneficiaries of Tubig Para Sa Barangay program brandish their Certificate of Water Connection during a turnover ceremony, held March 10, 2016 in Florinda Compound, Brgy.Tubigan Biñan, Laguna.
BIÑAN, LAGUNA— “Ang tubig namin dito may amoy, madilaw at pawala-wala, sa isang poso, apat na kabahayan ang naghahati-hati, minsan sa tag-init, naiiga pa ang tubig, wala kami makuhanan,” said Evangeline, 36, a resident of Florinda Compound in Barangay Tubigan, Biñan, one of the Tubig Para Sa Barangay (TPSB) beneficiaries, a program implemented through a joint-partnership between Manila Water Foundation (MWF) and Laguna Water.
One hundred (100) households of Florinda Compound are now connected to the Laguna Water piped network, giving them access to clean, safe and uninterrupted water supply. Through TPSB, a program directed to low-income communities, water connection fee of a chosen barangay is subsidized and a favorable payment scheme is offered for budget efficiency.
In the turnover ceremony held last March 10 in Florinda Compound, Barangay Chairman Danilo Aguilar recalled the struggle of the said community in sourcing clean water. “Mahirap makahanap ng pondo para makapagpatayo ng poso, ilang kabahayan ang matagal nagtiis sa iilang igiban ng tubig bago dumating ang Laguna Water,” he said in his message during the event.
TPSB was first implemented in 2013 at Barangay Soro-Soro in Biñan, where 150 households gained connection to Laguna Water network. “The program aims to assure delivery of our service to all communities,” said Real C. Magtangob, Regulatory and External Affairs Head of Laguna Water. He further said that “these kind of engagements, involving the local government is very strategic, especially in determining rightful direction of support.”
To date, Laguna Water together with Manila Water Foundation have granted a total of 270 families within the cities of Binan, Sta. Rosa and Cabuyao. As Laguna Water expands its operations in the entire province of Laguna, TPSB will be implemented to underprivileged communities in other cities and municipalities in province.
